Winter is coming
I can feel it in the air
As the wind blows past me
Running rivets through my hair
The smell of it is strong
And it reminds me of snow
But not a flake ever lands here
It is just so
Oh how I yearn for the feel
Of the ice on my face
And the white on my clothes
Transforming even the most barren landscape
I go back to my childhood days
When I dove into snow piles
Careless and free
With nothing but pure white for miles
The snowballs would sail through the air
While snowforts crumbled
As my sister and I played
Till our tiny bellies rumbled
My dad would join in
And of course cheat
By stealing our ammo
He could not be beat
But mom always sided with us
And gave a short threat
Telling him he better play fair
Or he'd have something to regret
We'd all chuckle afterward
As we sipped from our warm cocoa-filled cups
In front of the fire
With all of our feet propped up
Yes, winter is great
At least when it snows
But sadly it doesn't
And this is a fact that everyone knows.
